A red elderberry (Sambucus racemosa) is a widespread, fast-growing deciduous shrub or small tree known for its conical clusters of white flowers in spring and bright red berries in summer, which are generally toxic raw but edible when cooked, providing food for wildlife and used in jams/wines by some, distinguished from blue elderberry by its cone-shaped blooms and red fruit
