A Pacific Rhododendron (Rhododendron macrophyllum) is a large, native evergreen shrub of the Pacific Northwest, known for its showy clusters of pink to purple bell-shaped flowers, dark leathery leaves, and ability to form dense thickets in forests, providing shelter and being Washington's state flower. It thrives in acidic soils, partial shade, and moist conditions, offering year-round cover for wildlife, though its leaves contain toxins (grayanotoxins) that deter most mammals.
