Needles
Engelmann Spruce needles are blue-green, about an inch long, four-sided, and flexible, making them easy to roll between your fingers, with a sharp but not overly prickly tip that often curves forward, growing all around the twig and leaving behind a rough woody peg when they fall, and releasing a pungent scent when crushed.

Cones
Engelmann spruce cones are slender, pendulous (hanging down), 2-3 inches long, with thin, flexible, papery scales that have wavy edges, starting reddish-purple and maturing to light brown as they open to release seeds, making them look delicate compared to other spruces.

Bark
