The Oregon ash (Fraxinus latifolia) is a native, deciduous tree of the Pacific Northwest, known for thriving in wet soils near streams and wetlands, featuring compound leaves (5-7 leaflets) that turn yellow in fall, and producing winged seeds (samaras) dispersed by wind. It's a sturdy, fast-growing tree used in restoration, for shade, in rain gardens, and its strong, workable wood is prized for furniture, tool handles, and firewood.
